Frequently asked questions
What is the Pokédex?
The Pokédex is an encyclopedia of Pokémon species. The Otakuchar Pokédex shows each species' types, base stats, abilities and evolution chain, and links to its Pokémon TCG cards.
How many Pokémon are there?
As of Generation 9 (Pokémon Scarlet and Violet) there are 1,025 species in the National Pokédex, not counting other forms such as Mega or regional forms.
How many Pokémon types are there?
There are 18 types: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel and Fairy. Every Pokémon has one or two types.
How do I filter Pokémon by type or generation?
Use the filters at the top of the Pokédex page: pick a type or generation, or type a name or number to narrow the list.
What are base stats?
They are the 6 core stats of each species: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed. Their total (BST) shows how strong the species is overall.
What is an Ability?
An Ability is a passive skill that works in battle, for example Levitate makes a Pokémon immune to Ground moves. Each species has one or two regular Abilities and may have a Hidden Ability.
How does type effectiveness work?
A super effective hit deals double damage, a resisted hit deals half, and an immune Pokémon takes none. For a dual-type Pokémon both multipliers are applied.
How do Pokémon evolve?
Most often by leveling up. Others use evolution stones, trading, friendship or special conditions such as time of day or location. Each Pokémon page shows its evolution chain.
What is the difference between Legendary and Mythical Pokémon?
Legendary Pokémon can usually be found during a game's story. Mythical Pokémon such as Mew or Celebi are usually only available through distribution events.
What is a regional form?
A different version of an existing species adapted to a new region, with a new look and often new types, such as Alolan Vulpix (Ice) or Galarian Meowth (Steel).
Can I see Pokémon TCG cards from the Pokédex?
Yes. Each Pokémon page lists the Pokémon TCG cards with the same name; click one to see its details.
Where does the Pokédex data come from?
The base data comes from PokeAPI, an open Pokémon database, and is edited by Otakuchar.
